Equipment |
| The Department uses a variety of heavy and medium duty
equipment to perform road maintenance, solid waste disposal and other
functions asked of the Highway Department. Some of the equipment
has been obtained through military surplus at a great savings to the
Town, and others have been purchased either new or pre-owned.
Following are pictures and descriptions of the some of the equipment in
our rolling stock. Others will be added as time allows.

| This is the Osh-Kosh truck that was
purchased by the Town through the Federal Surplus Property program. It
was located in Italy and shipped to the United States and retrofitted
into a plow truck. The right picture is the completed truck. The
Highway Department removed the mixer and painted the truck. It was
outfitted with a new stainless steel sander and plow hitches. Total cost
for the truck and plow equipment was $45,000.00 dollars. This is well
below the cost of a new truck. There are two Osh-Kosh's in our
fleet, both obtained and outfitted the same way. |

Pictured
left is the 2004 Kenworth T-800 roll off
truck with trailer purchased new in 2004. This truck hauls all materials
accepted at the Transfer Station. The household trash and bulky waste is
trucked to Berlin, NH and deposited in a landfill. The trailer allows us
to haul 2 loads at a time and has proven to be very cost effective.

into service in early 2002. The loader was painted and also had a front
quick attachment installed to facilitate a 11' power angle plow. Total

2005 Cat 446D Backhoe |
|
 |
 |
The Backhoe is a 2005 Cat 446D model. It has an extended hoe
option which allows us to reach an additional 4 feet beyond
a standard stick for cleaning out ditchlines, loading
trucks, etc. The machine was purchased as a
demonstration unit saving the Town about $13,000.00 Dollars
thus allowing us to afford the extended hoe option at no
additional cost. It will serve the Town highway department
for 10 years.
