3rd grade SWAT talk

Kindergarten SWAT talk

As part of a school emergency drill in November, 2006, the Western NH Special Operations Unit was invited to do a tactical entry to show the students what the policemen may look like if they have to come to the school to help them.  We wanted the students to see the officers all geared up, so if the need ever arose, the students and teachers would not be afraid of them.

On the left Chief Marshall watches as Ofc. Mudget of the Claremont Police talks with the 3-4 class.  Kindergarten teacher Erika Sullivan watches as Chief Marshall and Chief Tim Julian of the Springfield Police Department talk about the equipment he carries.

Rich & his new helmetThe police cruiser is always stocked with bike helmets for those we see not wearing them while riding.  In July of 2006, Chief Marshall happened to see Selectman Richard Cook patrolling E. Washington on his bike, and not wearing a helmet.  Rich was given a helmet and promised to see a good example for the children of E. Washington.  (Bob Hofestetter photo)

Chief's Chanukah presentationThe police do more than just "cops and robbers",  To help the school teach about all cultures, the Chief is invited to talk to the kindergarten and first graders each year about what Chanukah is, and how he celebrates it with his family.
