Welfare Assistance and Food Pantry Access by Appointment Only

The Town of Washington Welfare Department provides emergency assistance to persons who are unable to provide the basic necessities of life for themselves.  These necessities include basic shelter, heat, food and medical requirements.  

Applications for Assistance are available in Town Hall in the Welfare Brochure Racks or online on the Town's Documents web page.    Completed Applications along with all relevant supporting documents are required in order to establish eligibility for assistance.  ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE PRESENTED IN PERSON.  E-mail messages may not protect confidentiality.

To schedule an appointment or to obtain further information, please call the Welfare Office at 495-0262.  All phone messages will be returned within one business day.  Assistance is not available from other town offices.

The Washington Welfare Office operates with a budget voted on at Town Meeting.  Cash contributions, donations of healthy, nonperishable food items, toiletries and home cleaning products are all gratefully accepted by the Food Pantry for use by residents in need.  Please do not donate perishable items, opened containers or items that are out of date as we will not be able to use them.
