The Moderator plays a vital role in the conduct of town meetings and the local election process. The citizens of Washington elect a Town Moderator every two years. New Hampshire law requires the Town Moderator to preside over Town Meeting and oversee the conduct of voting in all elections held in town. On election day, the Moderator is the chief election officer in charge of the polls. The Moderator decides questions of procedure and declares results of votes taken.
