"Good Citizens Award" in Washington

Watch out kids, the police are out to get you!

Recently the Washington Police Department and Washington Elementary School announced the creation of the Police Department "Good Citizen Award." The award will recognize two students each month for their work and spirit.

The winning students will be selected by the teachers and staff of the school.  While not specifically an academic award, good grades are encouraged, while other selection criteria include: Positive spirit, a willingness to help other students and staff, being a positive role model, being current with all assignments and projects, and being well behaved.

Once selected, the students will be treated to lunch with a Washington police officer.  With parental permission, the students  will ride in the police cruiser to a  the lunch at a local restaurant.  Hillsboro and Newport area eateries who may wish to donate  meals towards this program are welcome to contact the Washington Police Department for  more information.

This program has been endorsed by both the Washington Board of Selectmen and School Board.

Every month students who meet specifically listed criteria are treated to a lunch out with Chief Murdough. There have been some very kind families and businesses in the community that have sponsored these lunches, some several times, either financially, or by providing the meal. The list is too long to list anymore, but the current years sponsors are listed below.

If you would care to be a sponsor, please contact Chief Murdough. We appreciate your support. Click here to see the winners and sponsors!
