Center Station

Center Station

The Center Station is located at 75 Lempster Mountain Rd. and is the “headquarters” facility for the Fire and Rescue Department. The original three-bay station was built in 1967 on land donated by the descendants of David Heald, who settled in Washington in the 1800s. Another bay was added and the building was modernized in 1975. In 2019 the original building was renovated with the former apparatus bays being converted to administrative and training spaces, and a new connected apparatus bay constructed.

The new apparatus barn has three large bays with doors on each end, with room for up to six vehicles. The radiant heated floor evaporates water very quickly and a vehicle exhaust system removes harmful products, so the gear and equipment stay clean and safe.

A connector space between the old and new section serves as the Town’s Emergency Operations Center when needed.

East Washington Station

East Washington Fire Station

The East Washington Fire Station was the first Fire Station in town, built in 1966 on land donated by Norman Fletcher and family. It was a community project started by the Purling Beck Grange and built with volunteer labor. The two-bay building exists today as it was built with a few upgrades. It housed the first fire truck owned by the town, a used truck from Mattapoisett, MA.
