About the Department

The Washington Police Department current staffing is 1 full-time Chief, 3 part-time officers. The sworn officers provide an average of  80 hours of duty time a week, and triple that in call time. During 2011 they handled over 2300 calls for service, a substantial increase over 2010 numbers. Click on the Police Statistics link to see a monthly breakdown of call volume, or year to year comparisons. Read the Police Chief's report to the Town from the 2012 Annual Town Report.

The Department's cruiser is a 2011 Ford Expedition.  Interested in seeing some pictures of it and list of what it has? Go to the Vehicles Page. Being a rural area with some unique accessibility concerns, we also patrol on snowmobile, ATV and boat. We use the Crimestar Record Management System for our database needs.

We serve the Town as traditional police officers, but we also have specialized training to further assist the Town in times of need. Chief Marshall is a nationally registered EMT-I and NH certified Level II Firefighter. Ofc. Moser is a NH certified Level 1B Firefighter and serves as the Town's Fire Chief, and Ofc. Corrigan is a firefighter and Nationally registered EMT-B and is the Lieutenant on both the Washington Fire Department and  Rescue Squad. All officers are certified Ice Rescue Technicians.

After the 2011 Town Meeting in March, the Department was authorized for a budget of slightly over $112,000. This includes payroll, supplies, equipment, maintenance and benefits for the year. Click on the Budget link to see a breakdown of Department budget lines.

To locate us, go to the Town Common and we are the middle building, the old schoolhouse. You can get directions to all town roads on the Town of Washington website. DO NOT rely on your Garmins, Tom-Toms, or Mapquest when traveling to Washington. They are not accurate and will take you on roads that no longer exist.

The Department is very proud of it's "Student of the Month" award program with the Washington Elementary School. To learn more about the program, and see pictures and newspaper articles about the student recipients, please go to our Student of the Month page.

The Department likes to stay in regular contact with it's citizens and other Washington service agencies. Click on our Press Release link to view these and other articles relating to the Department or it's members.  Our weekly activity report can be viewed on the Activity Log page.

We have many amateur photographers in town who like to take pictures of our officers and the things they do, (both spectacular and slightly less so). Check our Photos link for our local version of "Cops" in Washington.
